Oceanco reveals five new interior designs for 80m Simply Custom range

1 November 2024 • Written by Katia Damborsky and Holly Margerrison

A year on since Oceanco presented its 80-metre Simply Custom series, the Dutch shipyard has revealed new interior designs from five studios at the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Comprising 17 individual yachts, Simply Custom was conceived to simplify the commissioning process to offer clients a proven naval platform by Lateral Naval Architects, with a distinct exterior character that can still be customised significantly by an owner, plus a full-custom interior. The new interiors hail from studios including Burdifilek, Dasha Moranova Designs, Liaigre, Luca Dini and Francois Zuretti to cater to "a spectrum of aesthetic tastes".

Oceanco’s marketing director Paris Baloumis said in a statement: "We are pleased to showcase the adaptability of our Simply Custom offering with this new perspective from these inspiring and talented interior designers. There has been a real appetite for this approach and we are happy to see it continue to evolve and grow."

Burdifilek

Centred around the art of living, relaxation and comfort, Burdifilek's design allows guests to connect with the outdoors through the interior shapes and placement of furniture. In terms of the materials, rich woods and textured stones create warmth and contrast, while a darker palette exudes a "timeless feel".

Diego Burdi and Paul Filek of Burdifilek said: "Our team wanted to create a handsome, powerful and confident design language to reflect the exterior design of Pegasus by Oceanco, although it could pair well with many of the Simply Custom yacht designs. We were inspired by Pegasus’s strength, elegance, soft edges and curves with simple lines. Our interior design embraces these characteristics with spaces that are practical, elegant and comfortable, while also expressing Burdifilek’s unique point of view."

Dasha Moranova Designs

Aiming to blend the outdoors with the indoors, the studio's interior proposal weaves in the distinctive exterior lines of the yacht designed by Bozca Limitless Design, Aurai. The studio highlighted the different aesthetics and atmospheres created through wall panels.

Dasha Moranova said: "Our Simply Custom interior brings a streamlined, flexible approach to design that allows easy personalisation without changing the core structure, focusing on finishes and details to suit individual preferences. We have partnered with Bozca Limitless Design to create an interior to complement its design for Simply Custom. Aurai is not just a yacht; it’s a redefinition of oceanic luxury. Built for those who seek the extraordinary and adventure, this masterpiece combines state-of-the-art innovation with timeless elegance."

Studio Liaigre

Guillaume Rolland expanded on Studio Liaigre's contemporary design, which was originally imagined to complement MTT Voyageur by Messerschmitt Yachts. He noted how it could be adopted to work alongside any number of Simply Custom exterior designs.

Rolland said it is "organised and centred around a scenario imagined and designed ad hoc for a living place adapted to all moments: family vacation and leisure, home office, informal moments and parties with friends, formal receptions, daily life and more."

Luca Dini Design & Architecture

Luca Dini explained the studio's reasoning for creating a new on board area, expanding the beach club to "the full height of its potential".

He said: "For a while now, the market has demanded a large aft in direct contact with the sea. Thus was born the idea of a beach club on two levels, with the aim of not only putting guests in touch with the sea, but also realising a 500 square-metre environment that can be used in multiple ways and situations."

Dini continued: "The second level is every bit as fabulous as the most exclusive beach clubs on the Côte d'Azur. The internal area is a stylistic continuation of outside, its various doors fully opening to create a completely integrated space with panoramic terraces."

He added: "The conventional layout can be divided and doubled, creating two sofa areas and two dining areas; and for more formal dinners and larger groups, these dining tables can be joined together. The two decks are architecturally connected by a monumental staircase which, thanks to a mirror ceiling, gives the illusion of extending infinitely. The levels are also linked vertically through the huge skylights on the bridge deck."

Zuretti Design

François Zuretti & Sébastien Gey of Zuretti Design said: "Terra is a project in which we explore various ways to envision the relationship between the inside and the outside. In the beach club below, the organic shapes and the natural materials help to create an atmosphere of fullness and connection to nature. Like cliffs eroded by time and the wind, the wooden partitions create fluid transitions between spaces."

The studio also highlighted the starboard lounge, which explores the flexibility of spaces and is set on a platform that can slide to the balcony. Meanwhile, in the beach club below, organic shapes and natural materials help to create a connection to nature. Wooden partitions help to create fluid transitions between spaces, leading the guests to the wellness area and onwards towards the folding platform.

Aeolus, first presented in Dubai, is one of the yachts that now forms part of the Simply Custom line

Talking about the Simply Custom line when it was proposed in 2023, Oceanco’s group marketing director Paris Baloumis said: "We have owners who are time-poor and [some clients]  have less desire to focus on every detail in the process. They expect to entrust technical matters to experts like Oceanco and our partners. And, perhaps most importantly, they want building a yacht to be simple and fun."

The approach was first presented during the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and sees collaborations between the shipbuilder and a number of esteemed designers including Espen Øino, Harrison Eidsgaard, Sinot and Nuvolari Lenard.

Each yacht will measure 80 metres and sit between 2,500 to 2,700 GT. Explaining the reasoning for this, Baloumis said that Oceanco had a number of 100+ plus yachts in build or in order, and they didn't want to be pigeonholed into this market. "Plus, the 80-metre sector is our bread and butter," he added, pointing to yachts like Alfa Nero and Aalto (ex Amevi ). He also noted that in certain Mediterranean countries, cruising restrictions are tighter for superyachts measuring in excess of 80 metres.

The 17 initial concepts would also be fitted with "an electric propulsion architecture" and will "harness the latest innovations into our technical foundation" according to Baloumis.

"The process of customising every little detail on a yacht can be hugely rewarding for those with a passion for it, but some owners look to us, as experienced practitioners in this field, to help streamline the process. As a smart person once put it, everything should be as simple as possible, but not simpler," explained James Roy of Lateral.

However, Oceanco is keen to highlight that it will not sacrifice its full-custom "landmark" projects, either. "Custom building is a core part of our DNA; we will always create yachts that are uniquely tailored to each owner. And we see Simply Custom as a logical development for Oceanco, sitting alongside our fully custom yachts and Life Cycle Support refit service, which will always be a part of our offering," said Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco's CEO.

He concluded: "The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have experienced a definite appetite for this new way of buying an Oceanco in an approachable, fun and streamlined way."
