Following its 170th anniversary last year, Italian shipyard Baglietto is kicking off 2025 with momentum. BOAT catches up with CCO Fabio Ermetto to reflect on the yard’s latest successes and look ahead at what’s on the horizon.

Few shipyards can boast 170 years of success like Baglietto, and the yard is forging ahead with confidence with four yachts currently being built on speculation: the DOM115, DOM133, T52 and T60. “We uphold the Baglietto strategy: as soon as we sell a yacht, we immediately begin construction on the next hull of the same model,” shares Ermetto. “This is all thanks to the support of our shareholders, but it also reflects our commitment to our philosophy.”

T52

This momentum comes off the back of an extremely successful 170th anniversary year, with three T52 models - one of Baglietto’s most successful product lines – delivered in 2024 alone. “We actually sold nine units of the T52 before the first hull even left the shed - a powerful testament to the trust our clients place in us. 2024 was a highly successful year, with every project delivered on time, a feat we are very proud of,” Ermetto adds.

Moving up a size bracket, Baglietto is also making significant progress in its Francesco Paszkowski-designed T60 - the largest superyacht the shipyard is building to date. While the first unit’s hull and superstructure have now moved to La Spezia for outfitting, hull number two has now been sold, and hull number three is already under construction on speculation. “We have great confidence in this product, driven by the exceptionally high demand it continues to generate,” Ermetto notes.

T60

“But we never forget about our smallest model, the DOM115, which we began designing two years ago in response to client demand for a more compact version of the DOM133 – another one of our best-selling models, now on its 11th hull,” Ermetto explains. “Over the past couple of years, we have observed a trend where many clients of larger yachts started their journey with our smaller vessels. This is why we are dedicated to maintaining an entry-level range in the 35- to 40-metre category.”

With many similar features to the DOM133, Ermetto says that the philosophy of the DOM115 is “much the same”, characterised by large windows, an abundance of natural light and a connection between the inside and outside. Furthermore, the DOM115’s steel hull allows for greater interior customisation, appealing to a more sophisticated clientele which, as Ermetto puts it, values “superior construction quality compared to production fiberglass yachts”. With hull number one of the DOM115 now in the outfitting stage and hull number two already under construction, Ermetto expresses confidence: “We trust that the DOM115 will follow the great success of her bigger sister.”

FAST50

In other areas of the market, Baglietto celebrates the swift sale of its first FAST50 model - just four months after its debut. “Custom 40-metre-plus fast aluminium boats are a niche market, so this achievement reaffirms our leadership in this specialised category,” Ermetto notes. Four MTU 2000M96L engines propel the 49.9-metre yacht to an impressive top speed of 30 knots.

While 40 per cent of the shipyard’s clientele is European, the United States remains a significant market for Baglietto, accounting for a further 40 per cent of its order book. With the recent relocation of the yard’s sales representative for the Americas, Tommaso Bilotta, in Fort Lauderdale, Ermetto highlights the strategic importance of this region: “The US market is currently a key focus for us, with many of our recently delivered yachts going to US clients. With Bilotta based in the region and maintaining daily communication with clients and the brokerage network, our presence in this vital market will be further strengthened.” The remaining share of the order book is distributed amongst clients across the rest of the world, with a yacht recently sold to an Australian client. “While not a large market, [the Australian market] remains an active and significant one for us,” Ermetto concludes.
