Each week we place a spotlight on one of the world’s finest superyachts for charter. This week, BOAT takes a closer look at what lies behind the retro profile of Benetti's 37-metre Koju...
When Italian yachting giant Benetti revamped its iconic Motopanfilo line, expectations were understandably high. Here was a popular model from the 60's and 70's — which had celebrity fans including the Prince of Monaco and David Bowie — reimagined for a modern client. Rome-based studio Francesco Struglia Design was selected for the yacht's exterior design, giving her a tall, noble profile with a touch of sporty flair and a modern bow design. Lazzarini Pickering Architetti was brought in for the interior and the designers understood the brief for an elegant, yet supremely comfortable charter yacht that feels warm and inviting.
Key features
Delivered in 2022, Koju has a five-cabin layout that accommodates a party of ten including a full-beam owner's suite situated on the main deck. A beachy Hamptons-style theme defines the cabins, with notes of white, Atlantic blue and blonde woods contributing to Koju's breezy laid-back character. The theme extends into the main saloon, which benefits from large windows that stretch up almost entirely from the floor to the ceiling and are contrasted by curving bulkheads and unique artworks. An intimate formal dining arrangement is located forward of the saloon, and there is an alternative skylounge area located on the bridge deck above.

Why is Koju the perfect charter yacht?
For sun-lovers and water babies, Koju is ideally-suited to a private yacht charter thanks to her selection of al fresco areas. Her beach club is well-appointed, with a retractable canopy and plenty of opportunities for waterfront R&R – here, guests also have easy access to Koju's huge locker of water toys. Adrenaline-seeking charter guests can make the most out of a Flyboard, a lift eFoil, towable tubes and twin Jet Skis, to name just a few. Guests of all ages will appreciate the inflatable island, which can be set up with loungers and offers an unbeatable location right at the water's edge.
Koju is also home to fishing equipment, snorkelling gear and kayaks. For those who want to enjoy a dip in a more relaxed setting, the yacht's foredeck has a lovely pool that can be fitted with Bimini shading and is adjoined by a Portuguese bridge, making it the perfect setting to cool off in company. But for those looking for some peace and serenity, this Benetti model is crowned by a "cocoon-style" observation deck that offers outstanding views from the highest point of the yacht, as well as comfortable sunpads for curling up and kicking back with a book.
