The 36.5-metre Mengi-Yay yacht Pennon has been relaunched and renamed Aquila following a nine-month refit at West Istanbul Marina. The yacht was sold in March 2023 to an owner represented by Lima Yachting.
Work began in May 2023 with plans for a minor exterior and interior refresh. This soon evolved into a complete redesign of the interiors, a hull repaint – from gold to grey – and a variety of technical upgrades. The refit cost close to €1,300,000, according to Lima Yachting co-founder Ibrahim Konya.
The original interiors incorporated grey-toned woods, black leather and stainless steel details for a cool, contemporary aesthetic. Aquila has emerged from her refit with a much warmer palette that leans into classic inspirations, including nautical-striped upholstery.
All interior and exterior upholsteries have been changed, with all the new furniture pieces designed by Konya and his team.
Other notable changes include the installation of a multifunctional games room on the upper deck and widescreen televisions in the upper deck and main deck hallways.
On the technical side, the engine and generators have been overhauled, all electrical systems have either been renewed or upgraded and new navigation equipment has been installed.
Aquila was delivered in 2015. She is characterised by an all-wood build and "shark-like" exterior courtesy of Ginton Naval Architects.
Key numbers include a 7.7-metre beam, a draft of 2.1 metres and a maximum speed of 21 knots.
