Italian designer Mauro Giamboi has teamed up with Van Oossanen Naval Architects to present a new superyacht range known as Azzurra. The designs, which vary from 30 to 50 metres, share a classic Italian exterior and "envelope-pushing" features, including an asymmetric main-deck layout that prioritises the main saloon and a highly efficient naval platform.
"We've developed a family of yachts that are not only stunning, but also push the envelope of what's achievable in this size segment," said Perry Van Oossanen, who also credited the "synergy" of Italian design and Dutch engineering to the success of the designs. All models are based on the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) developed by Oossanen, providing up to 20 to 30 fuel savings at cruising speeds.
The first model to be officially introduced, the Azzurra 40, has been conceived as the "ultimate semi-custom platform" in its size range (40.2 metres). At the heart of its design is the aft deck, arranged with a glass-fronted dip pool, sunloungers and sofa seating. Unfolding bulwarks increase the usable space to 85 square metres, while steps aft and starboard lead to the swim platform for easy water access. Another major social space is the sundeck, which houses a dining, sunbathing and lounging area, with the latter almost fully shaded by the hardtop.
Accommodation includes a loft-like owner's suite on the upper deck, arranged with a casual dining, an office space, sofa seating and a private balcony measuring 40 square metres. The yacht has capacity for up to 16 guests – thanks to charter-friendly convertible cabins – and nine crew.
The range is compatible with a traditional twin-engine setup and hybrid propulsion, with the Azzurra 40 projected to reach a maximum speed of 16 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Two additional models – the Azzurra 36 and an ice-class option named the Azzurra 48 – have also been developed.
Giamboi recently shared two other designs with BOAT International: an 80-metre concept designed for "polar adventures" and a 40-metre catamaran model with the "largest, most immersive beach club" in its size bracket.
