Palmer Johnson announces new SuperSport series in Monaco

20 September 2012 • Written by Malcolm MacLean

Palmer Johnson used the occasion of the Monaco Yacht Show to introduce its new range of SuperSports motor yachts in 42, 48 and 72 metres.

A notable feature about the design are the sponsons projecting from both sides aft, increasing the width of the yacht's aft end but leaving the overall profile sleek and distinctly Palmer Johnson. The added width increases stability and also creates four to five times the dampening characteristics of a monohull.

The SuperSport will be built entirely in carbon composite, stronger than steel but lighter than aluminium, enabling a transatlantic range and a top speed of 32 knots.

The first yacht in the series, a 48 metre, is already under construction with delivery due in 2013.

The October issue of Boat International features the Palmer Johnson 48m.
