The Oyster Palma Regatta wrapped up in Mallorca at the weekend after four days of racing with Oyster 885 Ayni crowned as the Class 1 and Oyster Cup winner.
The class comprised four Oyster 885 models, including the recently delivered Babiana, Achenar and Lush, resulting in close competition on the water. In her debut regatta, Babiana had no trouble finding pace around the circuit, securing a win on day one, but it was Ayni that lifted the trophy at the end of the regatta after securing back-to-back victories on the second and third day.
The entire 15-strong fleet, divided into three racing classes, included six newly launched Oyster sailing yachts, four of which used the occasion as a practice run ahead of the upcoming Oyster World Rally, a 16-month global circumnavigation that starts in Antigua in January 2024.
“Events like the Oyster Palma Regatta are important ahead of the Rally as it has given us an opportunity to meet other Oyster owners that are doing the Rally, but also bring the crew closer together as well as put the boat through its paces in a fun competitive environment. The last time we raced was 18 years ago in an x332 in Poole harbour!,” said Gabby Covill, owner of Oyster 745 Mexican Wave.
The Oyster Palma Regatta also marked a special occasion for the British shipyard as Oyster Yachts celebrates its 50th anniversary.
