Latitude Yachts has announced that construction has begun on its 26.3-metre project Laniakea, also referred to as "the world's first sports catamaran".
Laniakea sports a low-profile, geometric design and lightweight carbon construction, resulting in less fuel consumption and greater interior volume. Naval architecture is owed to Dixon Yachts.
Thanks to the outboard positioning of Project Laniakea's four waterjet engines, the yacht has capacity for six guest cabins and two crew cabins. Interior renderings reveal a minimalist, monochromatic aesthetic styled by Latitude Yachts' Chulhun Park – known for the 49.5-metre golden superyacht Khalilah. Laniakea will also incorporate superstructure solar panels and "the latest smart technology" in navigation, entertainment and climate control.

Laniakea's propulsion is designed in collaboration with BMW, giving the yacht a maximum speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. An impressive draft of 0.6 metres would allow Laniakea to navigate shallow bays and anchorages, as found in the Bahamas and Caribbean.
Latitude Yachts is best known for the 53.3-metre, sci-fi trimaran Galaxy of Happiness.
