The mighty 76.6-metre expedition yacht Yersin is now listed for sale by Tomaso Polli and Jonathan Barbe of Edmiston.
Built in steel and aluminium by French commercial yard Piriou to a design by Pierre-Jacques Kubis, she was delivered in 2015 as an eco-friendly, world-girdling expedition yacht. She is currently completing her 10-year survey.
Her history is an interesting one. The owner’s requirements for Yersin were so specific that he became an integral part of the design team, working in collaboration with designer Pierre Kubis, and of course the yard.
Green technology is at the yacht's core and the owner was willing to sacrifice guest spaces to make room for larger technical areas such as the engine room. Yersin’s diesel-electric propulsion spreads power production over six generators that can be brought online, one by one, according to demand. They burn only the fuel they need so they’re green and offer serious range. Meanwhile, two azipods are complemented by a pump jet forward that allows an impressive degree of manoeuvrability.
Yersin can sleep up to 18 guests across eight staterooms with a crew of 24 on hand at all times. The owner’s stateroom is inspired by the French colonial era and comes with its own private deck forward and fixed balconies as well as a luminotherapy shower.
Guests have free rein of a 30-square-metre spa, cinema, and a pool deck complete with a teppanyaki galley, sushi bar and a large swimming pool. Other highlights include a library and an elevator accessing all six decks.
This tech is eco-focused as well as lean: at 11 knots, Yersin consumes 360 litres of diesel an hour, half what she would with standard engines, and at nine knots this drops to 180 litres an hour. A catalytic exhaust filters 99.8 per cent of harmful particles, while a UV filter integrated into the black and grey water system “zaps” any remaining bacteria.
The 2,198GT yacht for sale has advanced water treatment and recycling solutions with an oversized dry and cold food storage and garbage treatment facility allowing for extended self-sufficient cruising.
Yersin is SOLAS passenger ship compliant and can travel up to 12,000 nautical miles on a single tank of fuel, while a 1C Ice Class hull lets her venture further than most other vessels. Yersin will appeal to an owner who wishes to explore the oceans, perhaps with scientists on board, enjoying the comfort of a superyacht without being ostentatious.
She can venture to unspoilt environments with water temperatures from -20°C to +50°C. Her underwater hull coating, with silicon “non-biocide” antifouling, enables access to maritime protected reserves.
Yersin is asking €59,000,000 and lying in Marseille, France.
