Six months after announcing the project, Sirena Yachts is progressing swiftly on its first 42-metre superyacht. Designed to accommodate 10 guests in five spacious staterooms, including a private owner's suite, the yacht is scheduled for delivery in 2026. BOAT's Hannah Rankine catches up with Sirena's CEO, Çağın Genç on the build process.

How is the build of the Sirena 42M going so far?

I am delighted to report that we are exactly where we wanted to be at this stage of the build – precisely on schedule and working to a very high standard of finish. Well over 30 people are working to build the boat at the moment, so progress is fast. Sirena is expecting to be able to join the hull and superstructure as soon as September, with the final hot metalwork completed early in the new year. And we’re on track to launch the Sirena 42M in 2026.

Why did you decide to make the Sirena 42M the shipyard's new flagship?

In a period of six years, Sirena has become one of the top players in the market. We created a range from 58 to 88 feet and produced more than 100 yachts. We have reached a great client expectation and production expertise leading us to translate our experience into the superyacht range. Our objective is to carry the spacious interior, attention to detail, efficient and seaworthy hull, and customer orientation approach to our new line of superyachts.

What sort of clientele are you targeting with the Sirena 42M?

The average age of our owners has decreased by 10 years and is now in the 40-50 age bracket, meaning they are looking for different features in their yachts. These are people who like to spend time on the water in beautiful locations with their families and friends, relax and have fun. And we are trying to make sure the Sirena 42M fits the needs of this new generation of clients. We are working closely on this with our brokerage partners - Northrop & Johnson for the US market and Ocean Independence for the European market.

What are some of the standout features that cater to the new generation of yacht owners?

The new range had to be sporty and elegant with some reference to the Sirena Yachts’ production designs. It had to be a timeless design. Like our smaller yachts, the superyacht range is pitched at owners who love to spend time on the water with friends and their families.

Another notable feature of all of the vessels in the new Sirena Yachts line can be found in their prioritisation of the owner’s privacy and comfort, which clearly feeds into the innovative layout of the new superyachts. To ensure that the owner still maintains their privacy when they want it, we have created an owner’s private terrace where they can spend time alone and relax without being with other guests.

Also, we have removed the formal dining area, as these owners want to be more sociable in the exterior areas and enjoy more informal meals with their friends.

Recognising that younger owners are more enthusiastic about watersports, Sirena has designed very generous storage space for a large tender and toys. On the 50M model, there is garaging for two tenders, two jet skis and a range of boards. And the Sirena 42M has large space for tenders and toys.

What inspired the creation of the owner’s foredeck terrace?

Like in all our boats, we always try to cherish the owner's area without compromise. We did so with the superyacht range. In recent years, efficiency came over speed, functionality and customisation came over size. They look for the uniqueness that is offered only to them and this is Sirena Yachts’ strength.

I really like the forward patio idea. Once the sliding door at the bow of the owner's cabin is opened, the interior and exterior have no real boundary. This feature, hidden inside the hull on the main deck, is a private, open-air space dedicated to the owners. It is very special. Dappled in sunlight and ringed with soothing plants, this private oasis receives natural light from above and from the side. Freestanding seating makes this a fine spot for a morning coffee or receiving guests in perfect privacy – even as you’re moored in the heart of the harbour. It’s really unique for the class.

Would you say this yacht has strong charter potential? If so, why?

Definitely. The Sirena 42M has a lot of charter potential due to its spacious interior and sophisticated design, luxurious amenities, and advanced safety features. It offers ample outdoor spaces, state-of-the-art entertainment systems and various water toys for a complete luxury experience.

We teamed up with great partners here. Luca Vallebona has created the exterior and layout, while the Italian studio Hot Lab, part of The Viken Group, has been chosen to design the interior spaces. At the same time, since the first hull is still on sale and being built on spec, the layout can be tailor-made to the needs of any potential owner, with options that include locating the owner’s suite on the main or upper decks, which, in turn, allows for a dedicated dining area in the saloon or something less formal, and to create a guest area in the bow dedicated to fine dining or pure relaxation, which, in my opinion, charter guests would appreciate.

What has been the greatest challenge in the build process so far?

Due to the complexity of the build, we decided to employ an external surveyor to monitor progress and control quality – in addition to the Class Society. Of course, it makes the process more complicated but ensures the best possible quality and safety. And we are building the new Sirena 42M at our superyacht facility at Altınova Yalova, near Bursa, and it was our first metal yacht, so we had to make some important adjustments. Overall, I’m happy with how we are handling the construction.

The Sirena 42M is currently asking €23,950,000.
