The 52.12 metre explorer yacht Ocean Starr has been listed for sale by Steve Reoch at All Ocean Yachts.
Built in steel for the US Navy, Ocean Starr was delivered in 1965, designed specifically to conduct research in tropical and temperate waters. Her operational area included the US West Coast and Eastern tropical Pacific where researchers investigated seasonal variations in ocean temperature, currents and salinity as well as assessing the status of marine life.
Ocean Starr currently sleeps up to 33 guests and crew in 19 cabins, and is certified to carry 18 guests for charter. Features include a floating laboratory equipped with temperature-controlled aquaria and live specimen wells, a walk-in freezer, data processing laboratory, and underwater observation chambers in the bow and port side for studying fish behaviour at sea.
For an owner with vision and an adventurous spirit, this yacht for sale could serve equally well as a mother ship, yacht support vessel or, indeed as an explorer yacht in her own right. To date she has spent 8,949 days at sea and sailed more than 1.3 million nautical miles, participating in expeditions ranging from Alaska to Peru and the Galapagos Islands. Twin 534hp diesel engines from the Hercules Motor Corporation give her a cruising speed of 10 knots and a range of 7,500 nautical miles.
Lying in Seattle, Washington, Ocean Starr is asking $1,650,000.
