€650k price drop on 47m Mengi-Yay schooner Gweilo

17 April 2025 • Written by Nick Jeffery and Dea Jusufi

A €650,000 price reduction has been announced on the 47.4 metre two-masted schooner Gweilo, on the market with Tim Carbury of Fraser.

The traditionally-styled sailing yacht was built by Turkish shipyard Mengi-Yay to RINA class in cold-molded epoxied wood. She was delivered in 2009 and extensively refitted between 2021 to 2022.

Gweilo is now asking €4,800,000

Winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 BOAT International Design and Innovation Awards, Dutch designer Gerard Dykstra has spent half a century designing innovative sailing yachts and rigs, so the world cruising potential of this 157GT schooner is unrivalled. A long keel ensures a steady ride, while luxury amenities and features promise comfortable voyages wherever she cruises.

Gweilo's interior, designed by Hakan Ezel, provides accommodation for a party of up to eight in a full-beam master suite, a VIP suite and a twin cabin with two additional Pullman berths. All cabins have en suite shower rooms. Dark panelled woods and rich fabrics contribute to a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Crew quarters accommodate seven.

The saloon features a C-shaped lounge area to port and dining table to starboard. Further C-shaped seating is situated to port in the deckhouse, opposite the chart table and navigation station. Guests can enjoy the thrill of sailing under the schooner's powerful rig here, completely protected from the elements.

Gweilo's teak decks are expansive with plenty of space for sun loungers. An expandable cockpit table entices guests to dine on deck under the Bimini – soaking up the sights of the day's anchorage.

A single 550hp Caterpillar 3406E diesel pushes her at 11 knots cruising and over 13 knots top speed, while under sail she has achieved 16 knots.

Gweilo's new asking price is €4,800,000. She will be on display during the upcoming Palma International Boat Show.
