Each month we place a spotlight on one of the best-designed brokerage boats that have joined the market or had a significant price drop in the past month. For January, the 41-metre Alloy Yachts sloop Destination is our Brokerage Boat of the Month.
Designed in Lymington, UK, by the late Ed Dubois and built of aluminium in New Zealand by Alloy Yachts, Destination – delivered in 2001 – is one of a run of successful joint design-and-build performance sailing yacht projects between Dubois and Alloy. Her asking price has just been reduced by €1,000,000 with Ann Avery of Northrop & Johnson. Destination is asking €11,400,000 and lying in Palma, Spain.
BOAT's brokerage editor says:
"Destination's wide transom and wraparound windscreen are hallmarks of Dubois and the elegant lines will undoubtedly join the ranks of classic yachts of the future. Working with Ed Dubois decades ago – in the days of splines and ducks (weights) on a drawing board rather than CAD – I witnessed his natural flair for drawing lines plans and how he could pinpoint the centre of gravity by eye. Sailing performance is assured."
The broker says:
"Destination is a brilliant boat to buy because she has that forever popular Dubois design. She has been beautifully maintained and upgraded with a side opening platform, equipment that gives her the ability to cruise from polar to tropical regions, and with most all her equipment and systems less than 10 years old she is ready to cruise immediately."
Key features:
- Pedigree designer/builder brands
- Signature Dubois lines
- Voluminous saloon space
- Fold-out amidships boarding platform

What makes her special?
Two more renowned British brands have put their hand to the interior: RWD (then Redman Whiteley Dixon) – who also partnered on many projects with Dubois – designed the original interior and Reymond Langton Design "refreshed" it in 2010/2011 in Palma, with a Neptune awarded in 2012 at the World Superyacht Awards for Best Refit.
A panoramic upper saloon pilothouse with a lounge area, custom bar and deep sofa plus dining table for eight allows guests to enjoy the action while remaining protected.
Natural light floods in from the wraparound window right down into the main saloon which is the socialising hub, where the motion is least and a wide-screen TV takes prime position opposite the comfortable sofas and coffee table.
A full-beam master suite contains both a king-sized bed and a daybed as well as plenty of storage for live-aboard cruising. Two staterooms forward have queen-sized beds and there is another single cabin with an extra Pullman berth so accommodation is for an owner's party of eight, all with en-suite bathrooms.
Destination features a unique boarding platform amidships to starboard, part of the hull swinging down to provide a safe and stable platform for tender access or watersports.
A $4,000,000 refit in 2020 – including a full repaint, engine refurbishment, rig survey and recaulking of her teak decks – and a 20-year ABS class survey, completed in 2021, mean the fast sloop is in good shape and ready for world cruising. Under power, the 209GT yacht for sale has a top speed of 13 knots, cruising speed of 10 knots and a range of 2,800 nautical miles.
