Ewa Eidsgaard shares the design secrets of the fabulous and family-friendly 74.5m Elandess with Tory Kingdon
"The brief for Elandess was to create a family-focused yacht. The client and his family, including children and grandchildren, often travel together and it was important that the boat catered to adults as well as youngsters, with spaces for each generation to relax and enjoy themselves.
We are particularly proud of the Neptune lounge. It’s the most striking room on board, with the most amazing underwater view and soft amphitheatre-style seating. Naturally it’s very popular with the kids so we wanted to ensure they were catered for. We chose fabrics and carpets that can easily be cleaned and are cosy to lie on and we added lots of large floor cushions.
At the bridge aft there is the upper saloon, which functions well as a family area. We chose a nautical New England aesthetic: wide, whitewashed wooden ooring and striped fabrics. There is a huge dining table aft but also a separate kids’ table, as well as a colourful seating area outside with a television and a beautiful woven leather ottoman lled with toys and games.
On the sundeck there’s a pool and an area for the children to play with a ball; there are also steps down to a grown-up sofa and sun loungers. Terracing creates zones; the family can be together but everyone still has their own space."
