This year marks the fifth consecutive year of increased superyacht visits to St. Kitts and Nevis. Christophe Harbour has seen a 20 per cent growth of superyachts frequenting the marina, which has now completed its second full season.
Greater numbers of in-season repeat visits have largely contributed to the Harbour’s success. Director of yachting Aeneas Hollins commented that St. Kitts and Nevis has now established itself as part of the Caribbean circuit. “With the marina firmly established, St Kitts and Nevis is a welcomed addition to the sailing triangle that includes Antigua, St Maarten and St Barths,” Hollins said. “Our services here are growing in line with demand, and we are getting ready for our third vibrant season at Christophe Harbour.”
Additionally, superyachts are staying longer in St Kitts and Nevis, as the average stay is now at four nights. The recorded size of yachts in the harbour is also on the rise, with average vessel length now measuring at least 50 metres. Christophe Harbour is homeport to the 60 metre Perini Navi Perseus 3, which boasts the world’s largest single sail. The largest yacht to have visited the marina since it’s opening is the Blohm & Voss motor yacht Mayan Queen IV, which measures 93.25 metres.
The marina, founded by Andromeda la Dea owner Buddy Darby, currently has 24 superyacht berths. The number of berths is expected to expand to 250 once construction is completed.
The success at Christophe Harbour has also had a positive impact on the surrounding community. The marina has seen a 60 percent increase in business with local companies since 2016 and by 2026 is expected to create 2,000 jobs, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Economic Impact 2016. The opening of the harbour’s five-star Park-Hyatt hotel this season will undoubtedly contribute to the growing travel & tourism industry in St Kitts and Nevis.
