Dutch builder Balk Shipyard has relaunched the 30.5-metre Ursus following an extensive, 18 month conversion into a pocket explorer yacht. The vessel is now preparing for sea trials, with delivery scheduled for February 2025.
In 2022, Ursus arrived at Balk's facilities in Urk, the Netherlands for her rebuild, which was completed in collaboration with Dutch studio Mulder Design. Plans included a new bow and stern, which has extended her LOA by six metres – she was previously a sub -24-metre Acico build – as well as a longer superstructure for greater volume in the main saloon, sundeck and beach club.
Other upgrades included an upper deck extension, the installation of an al fresco kitchen, new wing stations and crane foundations and a "renewed" beach club. The new layout also provides an additional crew cabin and improved crew spaces, including an en suite in the captain's cabin.
"This was one of the most complex rebuilds we've undertaken, but our dedicated team embraced the challenge," said Evan Kortmann, Balk Shipyard CEO. "We've brought an innovative concept to life [and] look forward to fine-tuning the yacht during sea trials, to ensure she is delivered in peak condition."
The original tender crane on board Ursus has been relocated to the extended sundeck, which also features the helm station, a barbecue, Teppanyaki grill and storage for two Jet Skis.
Ursus also received advanced technical upgrades to ensure optimal performance, including the addition of new diesel-electric pods and Veth Azimut drives.
