Sunreef Yachts has delivered the first model in its 24 metre Sunreef 80 Eco catamaran series in Dubai.
The eco-conscious sailing yacht harnesses solar-electric power to deliver fuel-free cruising while underway, and this model is also able to generate its own electricity under sail.
The catamaran features ultra-lightweight composite-integrated solar panels built into the hull sides, mast, superstructure and bimini roof.
The catamaran model was first revealed in 2021 as part of the Polish builder’s new Eco Line, which ranges from 12.1 metres to 30.48 meters. The Sunreef 80 Eco is designed for long offshore navigation and combines modern, green technology with supreme onboard comfort, the builder said.
Propulsion comes from twin 180kW electric engines. While under sail, the yacht’s hydro generation system will allow it to recover up to 15kWh of energy from the propeller rotation alone.
The main saloon features a large TV flanked by two sofas, forward of a dining table for up to 10 guests. Accommodation for 10 in four cabins is located on the lower deck, with crew quarters aft.
Capable of hosting parties of up to 16 people, the yacht's aft deck features sun loungers and additional sofas.
Speaking about the launch, Sunreef Yachts founder Francis Lapp said: “The Sunreef 80 Eco is all about responsible sailing and relying on renewable energy. We are now pairing the industry’s most innovative solar power system with hydro generation.”
The news comes after sustainability entrepreneur and former F1 champion Nico Rosberg was unveiled as the shipyard’s eco brand ambassador in 2020.
