A lack of inventory, persistent inflation and a general air of uncertainty relating to the US Presidential election all contributed to a decline in brokerage yacht sales this year compared to 2023. With respect to this year's 10 most expensive sales, BOATPro indicates the total amount secured fell 52.8 per cent from €1.51 billion in 2023 to €711.9 million in 2024.
Still, there was a considerable number of high-value items that managed to trade hands on the brokerage market in 2024. As we head into the new year, BOAT takes a look back at the biggest and most exciting deals of the past 12 months, starting with a 90-metre Dutch build that continues to hog the limelight with her Gatsby-esque interiors...

Taking the top spot for the most expensive superyacht sales of 2024 is Art Deco masterpiece Phoenix 2, sold in September after 724 cumulative days on the market according to BOATPro. Recognised for her New York skyline-inspired interiors and impressive array of amenities – including three pools, a cinema, winter garden and beauty salon – the 90.1-metre Lürssen has stolen many design spotlights thanks to the work of Winch Design onboard. The fourth biggest sale of the year came in the second month of the year, when Benetti's 70-metre Alfa was sold to a new owner. While the yacht was on the market, the broker said she represented "a rare opportunity to acquire a yacht of her pedigree, age, design and style." Designed in-house in collaboration with the owner – with an interior by Laura Pomponi – the yacht has had little use since it was launched just under five years ago. Alfa also scooped up a coveted Neptune at the 2021 World Superyacht Awards, where she won Best Displacement Motor Yacht for her category between 1,000GT and 1,599GT. Worth mentioning is the upper deck, which is dedicated to the owner and features an exterior lounge overlooking the touch-and-go helicopter pad on the bow. There's also an infinity pool with an electric system that raises the floor to form a shallow paddling pool for kids, or further up again to transform into a dance floor.
Alfa was sold with Fraser representing the seller and Ocean Independence representing the buyer.

Onboard highlights include a fully-equipped fitness studio, a tender garage dedicated to a wide array of toys and an open sun deck. Meanwhile, accommodation is for 12 guests across five cabins, including the owner's suite, which boasts large windows, an office area and a dressing room.
Vassa was sold with Hamilton Marine International representing the seller. The buying broker wished to remain anonymous.

Less than three months after a change of central agency, the 60-metre Amels superyacht Come Together was sold in May this year. She is instantly recognisable by her bronzed exterior and mixed geometries, including four trapezoid hull windows forward, and marks the shipyard's first collaboration with designer Espen Øino. British studio Winch Design saw to the custom interiors, whereby they incorporated playful elements like the guitar in the skylounge, which nods to the yacht's Beatles-influenced name. Her crowning glory comes in the form of a 27-metre sun deck with all the features you'd expect – lounging space, Jacuzzi, bar and dining table to seat 18 guests – an area that can be transformed into an open-air cinema or a party area with DJ decks.
Come Together was sold with Edmiston representing the seller and Fraser introducing the buyer.

Rounding out this year's top 10 is the 66-metre Oceanco yacht Luna B, now AHS. The late Alberto Pinto is responsible for the interior, which accommodates up to 16 guests in eight cabins – including a full-beam master suite with its own lounge, double-sided drop-down television screen and adjoining private office. Luna B had great success as a charter yacht thanks to her beamy sundeck, which houses a 19,000-litre pool, and a helipad that transforms into a sun lounge. Her vast exterior decks and interior arrangement further amplify this, with an exterior dining table that seats up to 18 guests and an outdoor cinema set-up up top.
