Mauro Giamboi unveils 81m superyacht concept for "polar adventures"

Italian designer Mauro Giamboi has unveiled an 81.1-metre superyacht concept known as Edge. The design has been conceived for "polar adventures" and comes with a robust steel hull, reinforced bow and the broad aft deck characteristic of explorers.

A range of 6,000 nautical miles is what would enable access to remote regions, with certain custom touches – such as heated railings and "specialised navigation systems" – also tailoring the yacht to less hospitable climates. The advanced sonar system and onboard ROV (remotely operated vehicle) would suit an owner interested in polar charting and scientific exploration.

Edge is Ice Class certified (Polar Class 6) and IMO Tier III compliant

The five-deck, 2,450GT build would feature 12 guest cabins and accommodation for 22 crew, not including the owner's deck. The latter is dedicated almost exclusively to the owner's cabin – and a private balcony with pool – with the aft skylounge also available for entertaining guests. A second skylounge can be found on the upper deck, alongside the wheelhouse and a second pool forward.

The concept has no shortage of lounge spaces, though the main deck aft – accessible from the guest cabins and VIP suite – is the centrepiece. An infinity-edge pool, bar, sunloungers and fold-down platforms make up the space, proving that Edge is also suitable for Mediterranean and tropical environments.

Another flexible area is the beach club, which is enclosed but connected to an openable terrace depending on the weather. The space is arranged with a spa, massage rooms, a lounge and a fully equipped bar, all with direct access to the sea. The final social area is the sundeck, served by an elevator and furnished with lounge spaces and a bar.

According to the designer, the yacht would be equipped with "immersive automation systems" that manage everything from lighting to climate.

Edge is expected to reach a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Key specs include a 3.8-metre draught and a broad 11.6-metre beam.
