Turkish shipyard Tufan & Brothers has released a new, 26.5-metre design in collaboration with Turkish designer Riza Tansu.
Known as Mako Shark, the model belongs to Tansu's Tiger Shark Class and is said to follow the recent trend of compact (but fully equipped) explorer yachts. Exterior design is classically Tansu, with her sheltered, militaristic profile also seen in the 39.3-metre S7 and 43.7-metre Cyclone.
Designing a mid-range explorer comes with its own challenges, according to Tansu, particularly when attempting to create "comfortable living spaces" and proportions that can rival those in a larger size bracket. As a result, the studio has provided two layouts for crew and owner operation, with the latter (naturally) providing more leisure space.
For the owner-operated model, the captain's cabin – located on the upper deck and connected to the helm station – would be replaced by a lounge area, while the number of crew cabins would be reduced from two to one. Naval architecture has been developed by Tufan & Brothers, marking the yard's first design collaboration with Riza Tansu.
Accommodation is across five cabins, including a master suite positioned towards the bow, arranged with a separate office space and settee. A main saloon with twin sofa seating, al fresco dining and a bow lounge complete the main deck layout.
The upper deck has a dedicated indoor dining area adjacent to a bar and open galley, while the sundeck has a secondary helm station and a lounge space which, positioned aft, would offer incredible ocean views off the stern.
Mako Shark is expected to reach a maximum speed of 13.5 knots and a cruising speed of 11 knots. Other key specs include a 7.5-metre beam and draught of 1.8 metres.
According to BOATPro, Tufan & Brothers has one yacht currently under construction. Named Hiu, the build measures 40.5 metres and has an exterior and interiors by Italian studio Red Yacht Design.
