From October 14 to 17, 2021, a new offshore regatta designed for superyachts will kick off in the Balearic Islands for the first time.
Known as Ibiza JoySail, the new race is the first ever regatta for superyachts to take place in Ibiza and the only offshore regatta held between the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera.
Superyachts measuring from 24.38 metres to 36.5 metres have been invited to take part in the event hosted by Marina Ibiza and STP Shipyard Palma.
Yachts already confirmed to be taking part include Nautor’s Swan 115s Highland Fling 15 and Shamanna, as well as Nautor’s Swan 80 Dark Horse and Dubois 121 Bliss.
The fleet will be divided into the separate categories of Performance and Corinthian, and will compete under the ORC SuperYacht system similarly used at other superyacht regattas.
This main event will be a regatta set on a 60 nautical mile course beginning in Punta de Cala Figuera in Mallorca and finishing at Tagomago in Ibiza. The regatta will attempt to establish a record time for cruising between the two islands.
Other races taking part during the event will be set on 15 to 30 nautical miles courses around waters of Ibiza and Formentera. During the event, superyachts will bypass a number of islets that form the Pityusic Islands, such as Espalmador, Es Vedrá and Espardell.
Following the premiere of the first edition of the Ibiza JoySail regatta, the organisers hope to make the races a benchmark event in the superyacht calendar.
