Maverick: Cantiere delle Marche delivers first Flexplorer 146 yacht

24 April 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

Italian yard Cantiere delle Marche (CDM) has successfully delivered the 44.3-metre Maverick. According to BOATPro, the explorer yacht is now moored in Valetta, Malta.

Maverick is currently undergoing her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean with the owner and his family on board. She will then embark on an extensive journey to the Northern latitudes with the ultimate goal of crossing the Northwest Passage.

Sold to an “experienced” German owner, Maverick is the inaugural vessel among a trio of Flexplorer 146 yachts. She is also the second yacht sold in the Flexplorer line, following the delivery of the smaller Flexplorer 130 Aurelia in 2020.

Described as a “true explorer vessel”, Maverick features a robust displacement hull and exterior design penned by Hydro Tec. The interior, meanwhile, has been designed by Francesco Paszkowski in collaboration with Margherita Casprini.

The yacht boasts several features geared towards functionality, including a custom-built A-frame crane with a lifting capacity of 4.4 tonnes, used to store and launch a 9.5-metre Rivellini tender and an A27 sailing boat. Her hull is also equipped with a 22-millimetre “ice-belt” above and below the waterline to ensure safe navigation at the highest latitudes.

A large infinity pool is included on the aft deck, which can be covered and used as storage for deck furniture when underway. At anchor, collapsible bulwarks on either side of the deck transform the space into a vast outdoor beach club spanning more than 135 square metres.

Other onboard features include a gym, sauna and diving centre, with additional capacity for a rescue boat and jet skis on the forward section of the upper deck.

Guest accommodation is  spread across two owner's cabins on the main deck and upper deck, the latter of which features an adjoining single cabin. The remaining four staterooms will sit on the lower deck. The crew quarters, meanwhile, can accommodate a staff of six.

Maverick is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines for a top speed of 14 knots and a transatlantic range in excess of 5,000 nautical miles. Additional zero-speed stabilisers ensure increased comfort on board.

"The three Flexplorer 146s currently under construction perfectly show the concept’s inherent flexibility, with each unit being significantly distinct from one another,"  said CDM CEO and sales director Vasco Buonpensiere. "Despite each one being unique in its own way, they all share the same features that enable safe exploration of remote destinations while providing utmost comfort and all the amenities expected of a true luxury yacht.”

According to BOATPro, the remaining two Flexplorer models will be delivered in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
