Arksen co-produces David Attenborough’s new marine documentary Ocean

British explorer yacht builder Arksen has partnered with Silverback Films to co-produce the feature-length documentary special Ocean, presented by David Attenborough. The film will premiere at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, London on 6 May before being released globally on 8 May – the same day as Attenborough's 99th birthday.

From coral reefs to kelp forests and mangroves, Ocean will take viewers through "the planet's most spectacular undersea habitats", with Attenborough narrating in person from several picturesque locations across the British Isles. Marine life has the opportunity to "recover on a scale no one alive has ever seen before," according to the producers, with this documentary relaying the practical, affordable solutions for reversing harmful human activity.

"My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery," said Attenborough in a statement. "Over the last hundred years, scientists and explorers have revealed remarkable new species, epic migrations and dazzling, complex ecosystems beyond anything I could have imagined as a young man. In this film, we share those wonderful discoveries, uncover why our ocean is in such poor health, and, perhaps most importantly, show how it can bounce back to life."

"Arksen and 10% For the Ocean are catalysts for change, and we love to support the most exciting new projects," said Arksen CEO Jasper Smith. "We are proud to have co-produced this vital film with Silverback and believe that its impact on ocean conservation will be profound and long-lasting."

The film will be directed by Colin Butfield, Toby Nowlan and Keith Scholey, with Butfield a confirmed speaker at BOAT International's 2025 edition of Ocean Talks.

According to BOATPro, Arksen has two explorer yachts currently on the water: the 26.2-metre Mamaluna and the first unit in the Arksen 85 series.
