Hamble Yacht Services Refit & Repair (HYS RR) has completed the refit of the 25 metre Technema 82 Beyond.
The 15-year-old motor yacht was in a state of disrepair and her London-based owner wanted to transform the dilapidated boat into an up-to-date luxury superyacht.
He chose to renovate rather than buying a new yacht so that he could customise everything to suit his needs and he was fully involved throughout the project.
The 25 metre Technema 82 was built by Italian builder Posillipo-Rizzard and arrived in the UK with a dated, dark wood interior and a sun bleached exterior.
One of the most notable additions was the custom bimini, which posed one of the project’s biggest challenges.
“Initially we were going to erect a canvas bimini but we ended up creating a fully customised moulded hardtop bimini complete with smart and modern seating for the flybridge,” said project manager Ainslie Hunt. “It really is one of a kind and creates real impact to the exterior look of the yacht.”
In the interior the yard did not change much of the layout, but re-sprayed all the wooden panels and fittings with a high gloss white finish. Retro 1970’s art and accessories were added, including Gerald Laing pop art, gold edged furniture and bold patterned carpets, cushions and wall panels.
The yard tried to keep the existing equipment where possible, but much of the technical equipment needed to be serviced or replaced. The yard said “no expense has been spared on making sure the yacht has the best and most advanced systems on board.”
This included the installation of two Seakeeper stabilisers to reduce roll by up to 80%, as well as the latest Raymarine electronics package, a modern stainless steel galley, air conditioning and LED lighting.
The exterior was refurbished and re-sprayed metallic silver. The teak decks were replaced, and new underwater LED lights and a backlit name badge help to bring Beyond into the 21st Century.
“It has been an incredible transformation and it is great to see such a different take on a luxury yacht and a personalised refit that is truly unique and like no other we’ve ever seen,” said HYS RR General Manager Malcolm Hearnden.
“When we sprayed everything white, we didn’t expect to then see colourful trimmings, fabrics and colours come into play but they all look fantastic.”
Beyond is now undergoing sea trials before she is shipped to the Mediterranean for summer cruising.
The industry's top superyacht refits take place for various reasons, including restorations, upgrades, and owners just looking for a change.
