French design agency Alexander McDiarmid Design has released further details and renderings on its 105-metre superyacht concept, GWP-345. The project is inspired by the "engineering prowess" of the Blue Riband record holder Destriero and marks the British designer's second collaboration with Dutch company Ghost Yachts.
GWP-345 shares the same wave-piercing hull and reverse bow as the pair's first concept, G250, but transposed onto a far larger platform. McDiarmid explained that he was inspired by the 67-metre Destriero, which in 1992 made the crossing from New York to the British Isles of Scilly in a record-breaking time of 58 hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds.
"We don't intend to replicate such a record breaking yacht, but rather honour the engineering prowess, long-range capability and sustainable high speed of the original," explained McDiarmid. "Based on an extrapolated version of the Ghost G250 platform, we looked into the possibilities for a more efficient high-speed propulsion solution combined with increased levels of circularity and sustainability."
Built with an aluminium hull and a reinforced carbon superstructure, the design is intentionally lightweight with a low drag to improve fuel efficiency and cruising speeds.
The project’s interior accommodates five VIP guest cabins and a full-beam owner's suite, which are all located on the main deck for "easy circulation". The main saloon can also be found here, with floor-to-ceiling glazing running its full length, alongside a dining area with balconies port and starboard.
Aft of the main deck is a swimming pool, which sits above a beach club that incorporates a wellness area. A helipad is located on the foredeck, and the sundeck, which has a Jacuzzi and bar, is protected from the elements by a semi-rigid, motorised canopy.
The sunken foredeck also has a motorised canopy to create a shaded exterior lounge and can accommodate two 10-metre tenders, accessible by a hidden crane.
"The GWP-345 is the concept that we simply had to do," added Björn Moonen of Ghost Yachts. "We explored the limits of what's possible with today's technology and construction methods without sacrificing comfort and practicality."
Brokerage firm Globe Regal Yachting is responsible for sales and marketing of the design.
