Blue Marine Foundation launches two new charity bike rides for ocean conservation

17 June 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

Ocean conservation charity Blue Marine Foundation has launched two new charity bike rides this year, the proceeds of which will support conservation projects across the globe.

The foundation has worked on 57 projects with nearly 200 partners over the last 14 years, resulting in commitments to protect over four million square kilometres of ocean.

The first ride is London to Solent, in which participants will ride from city to coast along "the UK's best cycling roads". The event concludes with a group dinner in Chichester Harbour, home of the foundation's Solent Seascape Project and will run on 19 September.

The second ride is known as the Ventoux Challenge and will run from 21 to 24 September from Bedoin, France to Monaco. The programme begins in the evening with a dinner and presentation on the foundation's work. This followed by a three-day cycle ride which includes a journey up Mont Ventoux, known for its steep gradients and incredible diversity of flora.

The team at Damen Yachting have confirmed their participation

Cyclists will arrive in Monaco on the third day to a "champagne spray finish", which coincides with the Monaco Yacht Show. All participants are offered free one-day access to the show.

Established in 2010, the foundation's mission is to see "at least 30 per cent of the ocean under effective protection and the whole ocean sustainably managed". The charity bike rides have raised over £2,500,000 so far.
