Baglietto launches first DOM 133 yacht with hybrid propulsion

27 January 2025 • Written by Dea Jusufi

Italian shipyard Baglietto has launched the 40-metre L'Instant from its facility in La Spezia. The superyacht distinguishes herself from sisterships such as Bee, Astera and Jules as the first DOM 133 model to be equipped with an "interposed" hybrid propulsion system.

The new system enables the yacht's diesel engines to be compatible with HVO biofuels, which the yard claims can "reduce C02 emissions by up to 90 per cent". The technology consists of a diesel endothermic engine and an ultracompact hybrid unit, fitted with an electrical motor installed between the main engine and the gearbox.

Since the hybrid system has occupied more technical space than previous units, the 5.8-metre tender and two Jet Skis have been relocated to the upper deck, with a 1600kg davit installed for easy hauling and launching.

The yacht can spend nine hours at anchor with "zero emissions" and "in complete silence"

L'Instant has an angular profile courtesy of the series designer Stefano Vafiadis, while her "highly customised" interiors are by Leonardo Santi. Personalisations include the galley, which has been moved from the main deck to the lower deck and replaced with a VIP cabin. Both the VIP cabin and the master suite, located forward, are designed with automated windows for natural ventilation – though the custom portholes in the lower deck guest cabins serve the same purpose.

The internal staircases have also been redesigned to connect all decks up to the sundeck, where the multi-purpose bar has been fitted with a dumbwaiter. The pool area, meanwhile, has been replaced by a fully equipped outdoor gym.

The first unit, Attitude, was delivered in 2022

Interior imagery is undisclosed but said to include eco-friendly materials, including carpets and fabrics made from recycled ocean plastic and "regenerated industrial waste".

L'Instant can reach a maximum speed of 17 knots when using the diesel engines and almost 10 knots in full-electric mode.

According to BOATPro, Baglietto has 19 yachts either on order or actively under construction, the largest of which is the T60 at 60 metres LOA.
