The 27-metre sailing yacht Milena is newly listed for sale with Jean-Marie Recamier of Camper & Nicholsons.
Built of wood in 1928, the Bermudan ketch was built in the UK by White Brothers to designs by Fred Shepherd who the broker said gave her a "sea-kindly hull that will deliver comfortable cruising".
Milena was refitted in 2007 by her present owner who purchased her 50 years ago in 1974 and has cruised her with friends and family as well as competing in occasional classic regattas.
Accommodation allows for an owner's party of six in three cabins, comprising an aft master with a double bed and ensuite bathroom, a starboard double guest cabin, just forward, with a bathroom opposite and a twin cabin forward of the saloon with upper and lower bunks and an ensuite bathroom. There are quarters for a crew of three and the broker pointed out "Milena could be run by a competent couple with minimal crew".
Her traditional interior is finished with wood panelling and white-painted deckheads. The saloon has a dining table to starboard, surrounded by L-shaped settee seating and freestanding chairs, opposite another upholstered built-in settee. Bookshelves and wall lanterns add to the ambiance.
Milena’s history is well documented – commissioned by Royal London Yacht Club member Rhodes H. Cobb, and originally named Pamela, she was sold in 1930 to a friend of Cobb’s son, the Lt. Commander Glen Kidston, R.N. Rtd. Kidston had been a fearless naval officer during the First World War and raced sports cars for Bentley during the late 1920s. He was also a record-breaking aviator.
A more sedate pace of 10 to 12 knots under power is provided by a single 150hp MAN diesel. The 49GT Lloyd's Register classed yacht for sale has a draft of three metres.
Lying in Cannes, France, Milena is asking €1,100,000.
