$1.8M price drop on Oceanfast motor yacht Thunder

15 July 2022 • Written by Tom McGhie

The impressive 50 metre Oceanfast motor yacht Thunder, currently listed for sale by Michael Rafferty and Mark Elliott at IYC, has received a major price drop of $1,805,000.

Thunder was custom built in GRP by Australian yard Oceanfast and delivered in 1998 with her most recent refit in 2021. Her unusual exterior is the work of the late Jon Bannenberg with naval architecture by Phil Curran. She remains a head-turner to this day with jet fighter-style exhausts that light up at night and two oversized air intakes with rear-facing grilles.

Thunder is now asking $6,995,000

Jon Bannenberg designed the original interior but it was later gutted and replaced when the yacht changed ownership in 2016. The new design was reportedly the creation of Roberto Cavalli who designed a loud and detailed environment decked out in glossy woods, precious metals and other custom fittings and furniture.

Thunder can sleep up to 12 guests across six cabins with a full-beam master suite positioned amidships on the lower deck. On the same level are two double staterooms that mirror one another, a larger VIP suite and a convertible stateroom that can be used either as a sixth cabin or a TV room. The last cabin can be found forward of the saloon on the main deck with wrap-around windows. The day heads and en suite bathrooms feature a unique selection of animal skins such as stingray, alligator and snake. Further accommodation sleeps a crew of nine.

The skylounge has full height windows, entertainment and seating areas and opens out to an enormous aft deck with a wet bar, fridge, ice maker and an al fresco dining area with seating for up to 12 guests.

A spectacular foredeck has sun loungers, seating and a barbecue area along with shade provided by her distinctive parasol tents.

Moving inside, Thunder boasts a main saloon with a large settee and occasional chair forward, while an opulent dining table offers seating for up to eight guests.

Twin 2,950hp MTU diesel engines coupled with a 4,600hp gas turbine allow a cruising speed of 19 knots, topping out at 30 knots.

Thunder is now asking $6,995,000.
