The 109-year-old, 38.1-metre Herreshoff schooner Mariette of 1915 has joined the market with Hans Van Doornmalen of Edmiston.
Winner of the inaugural Richard Mille Cup in 2023, she was built by the renowned Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in 1915 and designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. The performance schooner underwent a "multi-million-dollar" refit in the UK at Pendennis in 2018. This included the replacement of teak decking and the plywood sundeck.
50 square metres of hull plating were replaced, with "major steel repairs to chain locker and galley internal structures". The shaft alley was also "blasted back" to white steel and painted new alongside significant maintenance and repair work to diesel and water tanks, all wiring and plumbing replaced, and improvements made to the engine room layout.
Mariette of 1915 accommodates up to six guests across three cabins, all finished in traditional style. The master has a separate office and guests enjoy either the double or twin-bunked cabin. The saloon, with buttoned leather seating opposite the dining table, is also appropriately finished and oozes history, with wooden panelling, artworks and "intricate golden light fixtures". There are quarters for a crew of eight in three cabins.
Mariette of 1915's guests can enjoy alfresco dining amidships under the vast removable awnings, sharing the vast deck space with a five-metre motor launch tender and a 4.2-metre Falmouth rowing punt.
The broker rightly pointed out that she is "one of the rare genuine classic yachts available in pristine condition". She has had just two "loving custodians" in the last 30 years and only been privately used for decades.
The 102GT classic yacht for sale's twin 150hp main engines were completely rebuilt in 2021 and she can reach 12 knots under power with a range of 1,500 nautical miles at her eight-knot cruising speed.
Lying in Elba, Italy, Mariette of 1915 is asking €7,000,000. She is VAT exempt in the EU.
