Damen Yachting's 55m "ultimate support vessel" Axis sold in-house

25 March 2025 • Written by Nick Jeffery and Emily Dawkins

The 55.3-metre Damen Yachting support vessel Axis has been sold in-house at Edmiston, with Charles Carveles and Alex Dineen representing the seller and Alex Busher introducing the buyer.

Delivered in 2016, Axis was designed and built for a "true explorer" by Dutch shipyard Damen Yachting. She was constructed in steel to a design and naval architecture from the yard, flaunting a "robust and commanding" profile including an axe bow. Inside, she houses a contemporary interior design by Patrick Dupuis.

Axis was last asking $16,000,000

Accommodation is provided on board for "six plus two" guests across three cabins on the main deck, comprising two queen-sized doubles with Pullman berths and one four-berth cabin. Meanwhile, there are quarters for a crew of up to 11 in four cabins.

The large on-deck galley-come-garage features a barbecue, protected by an overhang and drop-down canvas. This versatile space leads through to the main saloon, where guests will find a welcoming lounge, TV and sit-up bar, connected to the internal galley.  Elsewhere on the bridge deck, aft of the wheelhouse, there is an external "sky deck" with panoramic views where guests can take al fresco meals.

In addition to a submarine garage, Axis has a dedicated hangar for a helicopter, with her expansive deck space allowing for a 3,700-kilogram helicopter load. Here, there is also a Heila crane for launching tenders, submersibles and toys, which is capable of carrying up to 16 tonnes. Notably, the main deck can be completely cleared to form a large entertaining space perfect for parties.

The 462GT explorer-support vessel is powered by four 1,499hp Caterpillar diesel engines, giving her a top speed of 20 knots, a comfortable cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles. She benefits from a relatively shallow draft of 3.6 metres as well as Quantum Marine stabilisers for added comfort.

Axis was last asking $16,000,000.
