Superyacht UK launch initiative to inspire students to pursue careers in the superyacht world

9 September 2024 • Written by Holly Margerrison

The Superyacht UK (SYUK) association has launched an initiative to motivate the next generation to pursue careers in the marine industry. It aims "to elevate awareness, to inspire, to educate and to guide the next generation toward the illustrious careers that the superyacht world offers."

Superyacht UK will unveil its ambition at the Southampton International Boat Show between 13 - 22 September to its thousand-plus cohort of students.

Ben Geary, chairman of Superyacht UK, is driving the initiative along with Superyacht UK's recently appointed manager, Michael Beattie.

In an open letter to the industry, Geary said: "We stand at a pivotal moment — where our legacy and future intersect. Before us is a monumental yet exhilarating challenge: to inspire the imaginations of the up-and-coming generation. These young minds, largely remain unaware of the marine industry’s existence, let alone an enticing prospect of a career with superyachts."

Geary continued: "I believe as a sector we can unite, and synchronise our efforts, to enlighten and engage these potential pioneers and future leaders of the industry. Any hesitation or failure to act now will only exacerbate the recruitment challenges many face, for years to come."
