Hong-Kong-based design studio M51 has unveiled its recent 95-metre motorsailer concept known as Project Amplitude.
Built with an aluminium hull and composite superstructure, Project Amplitude is designed in collaboration with Anthony Glasson. The concept aims to combine the eco-minded features of a sailboat with the comfort, propulsion and range of a motor yacht of its size.
A design highlight is the superyacht’s two inflatable wing sails, a newly developing technology which reduces the need for complex deck equipment such as winches and halyards. These sails would be computer-controlled, allowing for automatic sailing, inflation and deflation, and optimisation.
As it stands, this feature would have to be used in conjunction with the prop drive to reduce fuel consumption, but Glasson stated that “as technology improves, one day they could be used alone on a vessel this size.”
Another unique technological feature is the bridge deck’s forward wall, comprised entirely of LED screens. This wall would display the front view from the bow, allowing for complete immersion with the yacht’s surrounds but can also convert to a wall-to-floor cinema when the owner so wishes.
Accommodation is for up to 12, including a master cabin, two VIP cabins, four twin cabins plus two staff cabins.
The full-beam, 13.2-metre master cabin includes the same hi-tech display wall as the bridge deck. It also features an in-room corner bathtub, with all-glass walls for separation and moisture control.
The interior section of the bridge deck is Project Amplitude’s main entertainment area, including a dining and lounge area and a bar. Vaulted ceilings and skylights suffuse the deck with airiness and natural light.
The exterior spaces of the bridge deck have been designed to replace the sun deck of a similar-sized motor yacht with a hot tub, lounge spaces and built-in sunbeds.
The aft is envisioned with a large swimming pool, swim platform, a dining area and ample lounge space just above ocean level. Planter boxes surround the seating area. A semi-enclosed seating area for 12 is found on the main deck, enabling al fresco dining in all weather conditions.

These would be charged by generators and via solar energy, with the vessel boasting 266-square-metres of solar capacity.
