This week's BOAT Briefing podcast is now available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
In episode six of the new podcast, the team discuss the problem with TV programmes about the superyacht industry, the latest event cancellations and highlight some of the best new superyacht launches.
Editor-in-chief Stewart Campbell, deputy editor Caroline White and features director Charlotte Hogarth-Jones also examine some good news coming out of the brokerage market. According to BOAT Pro figures, there were 32 brokerage superyacht sales in August, which is the highest August figure since 2015.
Meanwhile, the Amels motor yacht Gene Machine has been spotted in New York, which is timed with a New Yorker article about its owner Jonathan Rothberg. The team talk about Rothberg's efforts to revolutionise testing for Covid-19, by working on a quick, at-home test for the virus.
This week's interview is with Jasper Smith, chairman of explorer yacht brand Arksen, which is a sponsor of the new Yacht of the Year award at BOAT International's Ocean Awards, which acknowledges owners and crews actively working to enhance the health of the ocean. Smith tells us why he made the jump from tech and gaming to explorer yachts – and what marine industries can learn from those dynamic sectors. He also explains his mission to create a sustainable yacht brand and reveals plans for the world's most adventurous superyacht gathering.
