Jay Aberdoni reveals 80m superyacht concept with "Dojo" beach club

18 November 2024 • Written by Dea Jusufi

Designer Jay Aberdoni has revealed a new, 80-metre concept named Standby. The superyacht belongs to Oceanco's Simply Custom portfolio, which was created to simplify the commissioning process by offering clients a proven naval platform by Lateral Naval Architects. Key numbers for the platform would include the LOA, a top speed of 16.5 knots and volume of 2,500-2,700GT, while the exterior proposals and interiors can be customised significantly.

The concept is named after the "stillness" of the exterior lines, according to Aberdoni, who said by "removing the unnecessary, [Standby] highlights your awareness of the essentials: the moments as you live in them." This includes a "geometrically layered" deck layout that is focused on expanding the views, with minimalist terraces and outdoor areas to place the onus of guests' attention on their surroundings.

A highlight on board Standby would be the bow: a wide, clean space that features a helipad aft and a firepit lounge forward, completed with a Bimini to shelter from the wind. Renderings also reveal a sundeck pool flanked with sunloungers, a large al fresco dining table on the upper deck and a side-opening balcony for tender pickups.

The beach club is another focal point of the design, presented as a gym and spa with inspiration drawn from "classic Japanese dojos". To this end, Tatami flooring, natural materials and simple shapes have been used for the space. Accommodation is typically across seven cabins – including the owner's suite – for a Simply Custom.

All Simply Custom designs would be equipped with  a "highly optimised" stabilisation system, pod drives, electric propulsion and onboard battery energy storage.

Aberdoni recently shared another concept with BOAT International called Day One. The design is described as having a "dominant minimalism [...] only suited for the nonconformists" and would feature a helipad and cinema room, among other amenities.
