New Zealand-based studio Isaac Burrough Design has unveiled a new, 80-metre superyacht concept named Stratos. Inspired by modern automotive design, the concept is characterised by its sculptural curves and bold proportions, resulting in a striking visual identity.
Said by the studio to be a "study in tension", Stratos blends soft curved lines with sharp edges to create a clever interplay of light and shadow when underway. Light bars, fitted aft on each of the decks, also add to the distinctive glow of her profile.
Alongside the dramatic light play across her exterior, on board, there is equal as importance on light. Designed to "redefine the relationship between yacht and environment", Stratos is fitted with extensive glazing, most noticeable in her elongated sweeping windows which fill her interiors with natural light. Low bulwarks also add to the experience, ensuring uninterrupted views which help to "blur the boundary between interior and exterior."
Stratos has "reimagined" the guest experience by dedicating the top deck to the bridge, technical araes and her 21 crew members, allowing the lower decks to be optimised for "uninterrupted" guest enjoyment. Accommodation is for 12 guests, including a forward-facing owner’s suite situated behind the foredeck, which benefits from private deck access and panoramic views.
Other standout features include the stern beach club which spans 150 square metres, and the glass-bottomed pool which, cantilevered above the swim platform, allows light to pass through, painting the platform in shifting patterns and reflections.
"For Stratos, I drew inspiration from the sleek, sculptural forms of automotive design to create an aesthetic that is unapologetically bold and modern," explained designer Isaac Burrough. "Its distinctive visual language is designed to turn heads, while its timeless elegance ensures Stratos remains as relevant tomorrow as she is today."
This is evident even in her concept images, which move away from common lifestyle concept imagery and instead aim to showcase Stratos' clever combination of light, form and surface, in what the studio describes as a statement that "pushes the boundaries of modern yacht design."
