New order HJB explorer yacht set for polar regions

Dutch superyacht builder Holland Jachtbouw (HJB) has announced that it's signed a new order for an explorer yacht. According to the yard, the new yacht is being built for an experienced and extremely hands-on owner.

HJB's new order is an explorer yacht built for polar regions

Known as Project 099, is designed specifically to cruise in the Baltic and polar regions where her explorer yacht attributes will be put to good use. To cruise competently in these icy waters, she will be constructed with a reinforced steel hull, topped with an aluminium superstructure. The exact length of the yacht and other specifications is yet to be revealed.

Power will come from a customised hybrid propulsion system featuring a cross-shaft option, which would allow both CPP propellers to run from either or two of the main engines.

Holland Jauchtbouw might be regarded for its sailing yachts – both classic and modern – but when they do launch a motor yacht those steal the show. Take, for instance,  Calliope, which won at the World Superyacht Awards 2011 for best tri-deck or semi-displacement yacht.

HJB is due to launch its latest J Class sailing superyacht, J8, imminently.
