Chinese yard Cheoy Lee has announced a new 38.7-metre model known as the 127 Discovery Explorer.
A serviceable and "seakindly" design was the priority for this model, including a full-displacement steel hull with sharp entry and spray chine. The yacht has been created in collaboration with Nick Boksa of Boksa Marine Design.
The pilothouse is positioned forward for optimum visibility, borrowing from the design of commercial ships, while the tender has been placed on the main deck aft as opposed to the flybridge for a low centre of gravity. Key specs include a 2.4-metre draft, a beam of 8.8 metres and a 4,000 nautical mile range.
Accommodation is across five cabins, including a full-beam master on the main deck. While the explorer can be operated with a smaller crew, there is capacity for up to 11 staff – including an engineer and captain's cabin, a rare feature in the sub-40-metre bracket. A dumbwaiter serves all four decks.
Interior design is undisclosed but will be the work of Sylvia Bolton. The formal saloon and dining area are designed for entertaining, while the skylounge and sundeck will be optimised for "informal fun and relaxation" according to the yard.

"The 127 Discovery has fulfilled this vision beautifully, and we are looking forward to working with Nick on future models in the Cheoy Lee Discovery Series."
This follows the launch of the first unit in the Cheoy Lee 130 explorer series. The model has been designed to "handle the demands of bluewater adventures around the globe" with exterior lines by Overing Yacht Designs.
