The 37.4-metre bluewater performance ketch Taipan of Wales has been sold with Alastair Shove of Carrswood Yachts representing the seller and Zancle 757 introducing the buyer.
Delivered from UK yard Pendennis in 1991, Taipan of Wales was designed by Ed Dubois (who also penned her naval architecture) with an interior by Terence Disdale, constructed in all aluminium. She has benefitted from a series of refits in recent years, including the replacement of her teak decks in 2015 and other substantial works completed in 2020. The ketch was originally delivered as La Cattiva for the late Peter de Savary, as he was starting up Pendennis shipyard.
Accommodation on board is for eight guests in four cabins, including a vast master cabin with a private Jacuzzi bath, two twin cabins and one double/triple cabin, with a fixed upper berth, all of which are positioned aft of the saloon and en suite. Crew quarters for six comprise three cabins, forward.
A spacious deck saloon sports a full navigation station with forward-facing seats enjoying a commanding view through the wrap-around windscreen. This leads down to the open lower saloon featuring a dining area and ample seating. Forward is the galley and laundry, equipped with a range of Miele Professional equipment.
The foredeck boasts a "fast-fill" circular Jacuzzi pool, for relaxation at anchor, while the cockpit feels secure while at sea with its twin wheels and Bimini top offering protection from the elements, immediately aft of the dedicated guest cockpit. The aft deck is large enough to position a table and deckchairs for al fresco meals, when moored.
Taipan of Wales has a 4,700 nautical mile range under her single 543hp MTU diesel engine, that offer a top speed of 12.5 knots and cruising speed of 10 knots. The ketch benefits from in-boom Reckmann furling and carbon-fibre spars, newly installed in 2006. Her inventory also includes a Williams 565 DieselJet tender and Scubapro dive equipment.
Taipan of Wales was last asking €2,250,000.
