25 February 2025 • Written by Tom McGhie and Emily Dawkins

The 40-metre Holland Jachtbouw J Class sailing yacht Rainbow has rejoined the brokerage market, listed for sale with Bernard Gallay and Youri Loof of Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage

Delivered in 2012, the 40-metre Rainbow is a modern replica based on the 1934 America’s Cup winner and original J Class sailing yacht Rainbow, built by Herreshoff in the US and designed by William Starling Burgess. Taking design inspiration from the original, but with a modern update from Dykstra Naval Architects, the J Class sailing yacht was constructed in aluminium by the Dutch yard.

Rainbow is asking €9,950,000 VAT paid

The sailing yacht is currently owned by serial builder and sailing enthusiast, Neville Crichton, who oversaw an extensive two-year refit completed in 2024, which included a repaint, a new deck layout and rig, new sails and winches and an engineering overhaul. Her refit was evidently successful, as she competed at the Superyacht Cup Palma 2024 and received the Spirit of the Event award.

She is also a World Superyacht Award winner (2013), notably built as the first J Class yacht with a complete hybrid propulsion and power system. Designed in collaboration with WhisperPower, this hybrid propulsion allows for silent, environmentally-friendly cruising for up to three hours. While in racing mode, she has ample hydraulic power and can also sail underway in silence.

Inspired by the 1930s Art Deco style, Rainbow's mahogany-panelled interior from deVosdeVries Design offers accommodation for up to eight guests and seven crew. Guest accommodation is in three en suite cabins comprising a master suite, double cabin and twin cabin with two Pullman berths.

Elsewhere, a stylish main saloon boasts large in-built seating opposite a formal dining table for up to 10 guests. Large windows provide ample natural light throughout her interiors. Meanwhile, her main deck aft offers al fresco dining for up to 12 guests. Rainbow is also Lloyds classed and MCA compliant.

Currently lying in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Rainbow is asking €9,950,000 with VAT paid.
