The venerable 27.8 metre motor yacht Meteor has been listed for sale by Marco Fodale at Engel & Volkers Yachting.
Built in larch wood on oak frames by Danish yard Gamle to a design by FG Hansen, Meteor was delivered in 1939 to a Danish aristocrat and, following the outbreak of World War II, was requisitioned by the German occupiers of Denmark. She even hosted Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun as guests aboard.
In 1956 Meteor was put through an entire rebuild. The hull was stripped back to her bare frames and she underwent important rehabilitation both externally and internally. As for the interiors, it was decided to renovate the original furnishings rather than carry out extensive modifications to the layout, so that she still has her timeless atmosphere.
The electrical system was completely replaced with new cabling, and all the systems of the engine room were removed and replaced after appropriate reconditioning.
Today, she stands as one of the few classic yachts for sale retaining her original interior, along with updated electronic and mechanical systems. Accommodation is for six guests in three double cabins, all with en-suite bathroom facilities, and she has quarters for three crew. Twin 120hp Gardner diesel engines give her a leisurely cruising speed of eight knots.
Lying in Italy, Meteor is asking €850,000 with VAT paid.
