The Best Summer Cocktails For Med Season

We are rolling into Med season with longer days and warmer temperatures and there's nothing better in these climes than a well-crafted cocktail, unless you're a rosé person, of course. Life in lockdown is allowing more of us time to experiment with our cocktail making skills, only recently did crew members blow us away with their the Quarantine Cocktail Competition creations for our Virtual Boat Show! But now it's your turn and we've rounded up some easy recipes for you to whip up wherever you are.

St-Germain Spritz

One cocktail ingredient everyone should have in their arsenal is a bottle of St-Germain. A sweet, floral liqueur, it makes a lovely contrast to dry sparkling wines and even works nicely in desserts. This summery cocktail is easy enough for anyone to whip up, combining elegant bubbles, with floral sweetness, in a long drink topped with soda. It makes for easy, refreshing drinking.

Ingredients

  • 40 ml St-Germain®
  • 60 ml Sparkling wine (Champagne or Prosecco)
  • 60 ml Sparkling water

Method

  1. Combine all of the ingredients over ice in a Collins glass
  2. Stir gently
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist

Paloma Negra

If you're partial to a boozy brunch, the Paloma Negra is the perfect pick-me-up. Light and fruity with a caffeine hit, it's an unexpected combination but one that works remarkably well!

Ingredients:

  • 40ml Mr Black
  • 20ml Mezcal or Tequila
  • 30ml Pink Grapefruit
  • Top with Soda

Method:

  1. Salt rim a glass
  2. Combine the first three ingredients and add ice
  3. Top with soda
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge

Le Grande Fizz

This light and zesty cocktail created by master mixologist and Grey Goose ambassador Myles Donneky takes inspiration from the traditional French pressé for a refreshing drink perfect for the end of a long day of swimming and sunbathing.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Add vodka and St Germain to glass
  2. Squeeze juice of two lime wedges into glass and discard
  3. Top up with soda
  4. Garnish with three more lime wedges

Lychee Martini

For the perfect sundowner that refreshingly sweet and addictively more-ish, a Lychee Martini is a fail-safe option for all. For a low alcohol option, switch out the lychee liqueur for lychee syrup.

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, pour the vodka over ice
  2. Add the lychee liqueur and vermouth
  3. Add a splash of lychee syrup from the tinned lychees
  4. Shake and serve, garnish with a whole lychee

A wonderful new vermouth from Piedmont, The Starlino Rosé makes a lovely base for spritzers and it's one you can rustle up in no time. This drink is perfect for those looking for something light and refreshing that's not too high in ABV.

The English 75

This elegant cocktail created by Pepijn Vanden Abeele, bars director at London's sketch restaurant, aims to offer a British take on the classic French 75 by marrying Tanqueray gin with English sparkling wine. The perfect alternative to champagne.

Method

  1. Combine gin, lemon juice and pink grapefruit in a champagne flute.
  2. Top with sparkling rose wine.

Rémy Martin Grand Tonic

If you've finally tired of the traditional Aperol Spritz then Rémy Martin's take on the original grown up summer drink could be just the thing. Suitably impressive when entertaining guests and easy to make in large numbers, this is the ideal drink for superyacht soirees.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Mix Rémy Martin and vermouth in a burgundy wine glass
  2. Top up with tonic water
  3. Garnish with a lemon wedge

A twist on the classic Dark and Stormy, made all the more exciting with the addition of Calamansi juice and bitters, though it's the aged rum that's the jewel in the crown. An ideal isolation libation for rum drinkers and easy enough to whip up in a matter of minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Don Papa
  • 15ml Calamansi juice (optional)
  • 45ml Ginger beer
  • 2 Dashes of bitters
  • Lime wedges
  • Fresh mint to garnish

Method:

  1. In a high ball glass filled with ice, squeeze the juice of half a lime
  2. Add Don Papa and top with ginger beer and a couple dashes of bitters
  3. Stir and garnish with mint leaves
