The ultimate luxury garages for superyacht and supercar owners in Palm Beach

Simon de Burton gets up to speed with the latest in supercar storage...

Superyacht owners often share a similar appreciation of supercars, so imagine being able to moor up at Palm Beach Marina, before heading less than 20 minutes across the bridge to get reacquainted with your beloved automobiles inside their very own luxury condominium?

If the thought appeals, a visit to The Hangar Group’s latest development needs to be on the itinerary the next time you’re in town – be that by yacht or by plane, because The Hangar at PBIA is just a stone’s throw from the international airport.

Hangar Group CEO Scott Cunningham bought the five-hectare site in 2021 following the success of an inaugural build of 41 units designed to store cars, art, wine and collectables a few kilometres away at Riviera Beach. Noticing that several clients were Palm Beach residents, he saw sense in positioning the second development closer to the island and created 68 ultra-high-end garages of between 170 and 347 square metres.

A collector of Ferrari and Porsche cars and Ducati motorcycles himself, the former residential property specialist dreamed up “luxury garaging” after seeing how local light aircraft owners enjoyed a social bond as a result of keeping their planes in a dedicated space. He also observed that many car enthusiasts want more than just a basic shell in which to store their pride and joy; they want something that equates to a gallery or exhibition space, which they can decorate and furnish to create a fitting ambience in which they and their friends can appreciate their collections.

“It’s a new class of real estate,” Cunningham says. “Of our current and future owners, some are local but others don’t reside full-time in the US – Palm Beach might be the location of their fourth or fifth home, and we have one couple who live aboard their superyacht and spend much of their time travelling the world. Other owners have their own aircraft and appreciate the fact that we are so close to PBI airport; when they land, they call us and we pick them up in the house car.”

Garages at The Hangar at PBIA – set for completion in March – start at $799,000 (£655,000), while the largest units go for $1.6 million. In each case, they feature fully insulated roofs and walls and hurricane-proof electric roller doors measuring 4.3 metres across for vehicle access.

The temperature-controlled units all have private bathrooms and each is sold as a “blank canvas”, ready for their owners to decorate as they wish; some have added features such as library shelving, cigar humidors and wine storage units.

In addition to being able to withstand the worst of Floridian weather, The Hangar at PBIA is also highly secure and private, making it ideal for multimillion-dollar collections. As well as having a full-time concierge, the site is gated and fitted with state-of-the-art surveillance equipment.

Beyond providing garaging for an owner’s favourite cars and motorcycles, however, The Hangar is also intended to operate as a social venue for like-minded enthusiasts. It has an owners’ lounge, kitted out with golf and driving simulators, catering facilities, a cinema and even a boardroom for on-site meetings.

And if you’re keen on buying a new piece of automobile art or a fresh set of wheels for your favourite Porsche, you should be able to do that, too, as adjacent to The Hangar at PBIA, Cunningham has developed Airfield Park, a 16-unit retail area in which the spaces can be occupied only by businesses in the worlds of cars, aircraft or art. The question is, will The Hangar owners ever want to go home? Or back to the yacht, of course… thehangargroup.com
