Indonesian designer Pradipta Hakim has been crowned the winner of the Young Designer of the Year Award 2024, in association with Feadship, after impressing the judging panel with his yacht design concept 'Blueminance'.
The task for this year’s Young Designer of the Year competitors was intended to exercise their imagination as well as their pencils and keypads. Their task was twofold: firstly, to create a design suitable for a young superyacht owner in the not-too-distant future, a model that would be prominently placed in a builder’s stand at a yacht show as an eye-catcher. To further task their imagination, they were asked to position themselves as this young owner and create a yacht that they would wish to own. The task involved conceiving the yacht’s exterior styling and illustrating this in three renderings, two of which were to be digitally drawn and the third drawn entirely by hand. In addition, they were required to draw a general arrangement plan, one deck of which was to be completed to a high standard, and an interior design proposal for an area of their own choice.
This task was taken up by 26 young designers, whose submissions were done to such a high standard that the judges had a challenge in choosing the six finalists and, ultimately, a winner. But, after many hours of studying the submissions, followed by a day-long meeting to discuss and share their views, Pradipta R Hakim from Indonesia was unanimously declared the winner. His well-presented design showed strong, innovative and attractive lines, which were accompanied by an extremely well-drawn general arrangement plan and an appealing interior design. The judges offer their congratulations to a worthy winner.
