Scintilla Maris, a 45.68 m Hybrid Propulsion Expedition Yacht, was built by Damen Maaskant Shipyards in the Netherlands and delivered in1989 as one the yard’s largest, most powerful fishing trawlers.
In 2019 Damen Maaskant recycled the unusually heavily engineered hull as the basis for the new construction of a go-anywhere expedition yacht. Her top speed is 13.5 knots and her propulsion comes from a hybrid powerplant with Volvo Tier-3 gen sets, a Lithium-Ion battery pack and a Marelli variable frequency electromotor.
The innovative propulsion system provides a minimal carbon footprint at a top speed of 13.5 knots and exceptionally low sound and vibration levels, while the ship’s trawler pedigree warrants comfortable, safe, go-anywhere seakeeping qualities.
Scintilla Maris was designed by Damen Maaskant and re-build’s naval architecture and styling were completed by Vripack Design. She is Marshall Islands flagged, known as an active charter superyacht with EYOS as her Central Agent and an Arctic itinerary for the Summer of ’24.
