Turkish yard VisionF Yachts has announced the launch of its first all-electric catamaran. Measuring 23.9 metres, the yacht hit the water in Tuzla as the first unit in the E-Cat 80 series.
The "high-tech cat" has a carbon fibre build, lean hulls and clean, contemporary lines by Marco Casali of Too Design. Two Danfoss electric motors – with 340kW peak power – will provide the owner with "smooth handling" and manoeuvrability up to speeds of 16 knots, with the efficiency of the build owed to naval architect Dr. Amedeo Migali.
Able to harness solar energy, the model is designed with 54 solar panels that continuously charge her batteries and generate up to 21.6kW per hour. This creates an "entirely self-sustaining energy system", with the E-Cat 80 able to cruise extensively without depending on external power. Twin 150kW generators provide backup energy for emergency situations and boost the yacht's efficiency when cruising at high speeds.
A semi-custom series, the E-Cat 80 has several layout offers that can accommodate both private and charter use, with accommodation for up to 12 guests and four crew.
Other highlights include a 10.9-metre beam and a fully customisable garage which can store water ski equipment, sea scooters, Jet Skis, scuba diving gear and tenders.
According to BOATPro, VisionF Yachts has three units under construction. The Turkish yard recently divulged details of its largest build, an "ultramodern" 30.7-metre catamaran tailored for Mediterranean cruising.
