The half-completed 49.9 metre hull of a 2007 Trinity 168’ model has been sold at auction with a total of three bids received. The final price has not yet been disclosed.
The sale was managed by Boathouse Auctions in collaboration with Mike Joyce of Hargrave Custom Yachts. Jack Mahoney of Boathouse Auctions said: "With interest from 32 qualified buyers over the 45-day auction process, we are confident market value was delivered and both the seller and buyer are pleased with the outcome."
Bidding on the yacht began at $1,500,000 and the reserve price was $2,500,000.
The hull is currently lying in Mississippi, not far from where Trinity Yachts began construction on the yacht fifteen years ago.
The all-aluminium vessel is approximately 40 per cent complete, with construction of the yacht’s hull and superstructure nearly 95 per cent complete. The listing for the vessel suggests the model would require a $25 million injection to transform into a vessel with a high-quality superyacht finish.
The semi-displacement yacht has been constructed under ABS standards and will be able to reach a top speed of 23 knots with a shallow draft under 2.4 metres. As part of the package, the hull was sold with under-warranty MTU engines and various other mechanical parts and inventory.
The yacht has a charter-friendly six-cabin layout with elevator access to all four decks, plus a well-appointed sundeck with a stand-up bar, dining area and a head.
The yacht has been granted permission to remain in its current location until February 15, 2023 to allow the buyer to make sufficient arrangements for completion.
Boathouse Auctions has stressed that the original Trinity team is on hand to help the new owner. "Everyone who was involved in this yacht from the CEO down wants to see this yacht successfully completed and be part of the history of Trinity. The support team can provide whatever help is needed to get into production as fast as possible regardless of which yard [is chosen] for the yacht for completion," said a representative of Boathouse Auctions.
There are nine other Trinity 164 models on the water. One of the older models, TCB, was delivered in 2004 and listed in 2009 for $31,450,000.
