Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS), part of The Viken Group, has announced that Turkish shipyard AES Yacht has been selected for the construction of a new 60-metre explorer designed in collaboration with Laurent Giles.
Named Mimer, the concept is designed to offer the “ultimate expedition experience” and carries a host of specialist equipment, including amphibious vehicles, beach buggies and snowmobiles. The yacht is not yet in build, but could be completed within three years from the time the contract is signed.
Antonio Romano, commercial director at The Viken Group, said he was delighted with the partnership on account of the yard's extensive expertise and its expansive facilities. "They can provide everything in-house, from steel and metal construction to furniture and interior," commented Romano. "Another important factor in our decision is that AES has capacity and a slot available for the Mimer project."
Mimer has three build configurations; world traveller, adventure explorer, and air explorer. The world traveller offers an extended beach club area on the main deck, while the adventure explorer configuration has additional storage space for accessories including cars and bikes. Meanwhile, the air explorer has the same format as the world traveller, but with a helicopter hangar in place of the aft guest lounge.
The yacht’s Scandinavian-inspired interiors have been described as ‘simplistic and minimalistic’ with a neutral colour palette running through the vessel. TDoS has also opted for panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows to draw light into the yacht and accentuate its bright and airy interiors.
Meanwhile, the yacht's exterior has been designed to challenge the traditional "aggressive" look of explorers. “We wanted to create a ‘she'", explained Daniel Nerhagen, partner and yacht director at TDos .
Mimer will accommodate 12 guests across six cabins, which includes the owner’s suite positioned on the main deck which has its own private jacuzzi. The 60-metre vessel also features a spa and gym on the lower deck aft, which can be equipped with a sauna and gym equipment without encroaching on the yacht’s ample storage for tenders and toys.
Sustainability has also been strongly considered on board Mimer in not just its hybrid propulsion package, but the materials used on board. Where possible, TSD has pledged to utilise “eco-friendly materials and local suppliers,” during construction and apply an “eco-friendly anti-fouling agent to reduce drag and avoid species transfer.”
Mimer has been listed for sale with IYC with an asking price of €65,000,000.
