Tankoa reveals Luca Dini-designed Sportiva superyacht line

25 June 2021 • Written by Tom McGhie

Sportiva, a new superyacht line comprising three models ranging from 45m-65m, has been revealed by Tankoa Yachts.

Designer Luca Dini and Tankoa chief executive Vincenzo Poerio unveiled the new line during a virtual press conference, in which Dini revealed he had been briefed to create a line that “met the ideas and wishes of owners, crew, brokers and the market in general”.

Available in three sizes; 45m, 55m and 65m, the new line is currently in the preliminary design phase, with Tankoa already engaged in sale negotiations. However, the yard revealed it would begin construction on spec, estimating construction to take up to 24 months. The 55 metre version will be followed by a faster, all-aluminium 45 metre version, as well as a larger 65 metre version.

“We will start the [construction] very soon as we think this boat is interesting for the market,” said Poerio.

The three models share central design features, including the beach club, bow and stern.  The bow, Dini said, was a “mix of a vertical and traditional bow”, which gives the yacht “an aggressive, sporty look”.

The stern meanwhile features a “big and open” beach club, following an industry design trend that allows the owners and guests to use the area “in a completely different way”, according to Dini. Tender storage has been moved to the bow, allowing room for a flush swimming pool, spa area, gym and sauna in the beach club. The standout feature of this area however is the submerged hull window, which sits below the waterline and provides guests with a partially submerged view. This feature was a direct result of “lots of requests from owners”, Dini revealed.

Accommodation on board the 55m model is for a maximum of 12 guests in five guest cabins and the owner’s suite, which is described as a “suite on the sea”. However, Dini has also developed a hybrid version, which sees the engine room positioned forward. This gives the reduced number of four guest cabins direct access to the beach club. The crew quarters meanwhile allows for a maximum staff of 10.

Elsewhere, the 55m model’s bridge deck doubles as an open-air cinema while at anchor, while the 90 sqm sundeck is complete with a swimming pool, bar and sunbeds.

Built from a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the 55m model will have a projected top speed of 16.5 knots and range of 3,800 nautical miles at 12 knots, though Poerio said a transatlantic range of 4,000 nautical miles would be possible.
