A 26 metre Princess yacht named Vista Me has run aground on Calvi beach in Corsica. The incident occurred after the yacht's mooring line snapped during a heavy storm on Friday 12.
According to local media reports, at least six other pleasure boats became adrift and ran aground as a result of the storm, which saw torrential rain and 43-knot gusts of wind battering the Balagne region in the north of Corsica.
The incident has left a number of surrounding boats with torn sails and damage to engines and propellers. In a statement posted on social media, local lifeguards SNSM Calvi Balagne confirmed that they "arrived on the scene [to] participate in [rescue] operations".
After 12 hours of intervention, all yachts excluding Vista Me were refloated over the weekend. It is understood that Vista Me will require an inspection to assess the risk of further damage before she can be safely removed from the beach.
The storm, which primarily affected the Ile-Rousse commune, caused flooding, uprooted trees and damage to property.
